Frequently asked questions

How do I scan a paper document?

On the Home tab, tap Start Scan. Hold your iPhone over the page — edges are detected automatically. Capture as many pages as you need, tap Save, and the PDF is created for you.

How do I turn photos into a PDF?

Open the Image tab, tap Add Photos to import from your library, then tap photos in the order you want them to appear. Choose a page size (A4, Letter, A5 or Original) and tap Convert. Long-press a photo to preview or remove it.

Which languages does text recognition (OCR) support?

OCR uses Apple’s on-device Vision engine and supports English, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese, Korean, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian and Ukrainian, with more languages on newer iOS versions. For best results, use a sharp, well-lit photo with the text filling most of the frame.

How do I merge PDFs, including files from other apps?

Open the Merge tab and tap files in the order you want them combined — the numbers show the order. To add PDFs from iCloud Drive, Downloads or other apps, tap Import PDF from Files at the top of the list. Then tap Merge.

Can I open a PDF from Mail, WeChat or Safari in PDF Maker?

Yes. Open the PDF in the other app, tap the Share button and choose PDF Maker (you may need to tap “More” the first time). The file is imported and opened automatically.

Where are my files stored?

Everything is stored on your iPhone. You can also find your PDFs in the Files app under On My iPhone › PDF Maker › PDFs. Files you add to that folder will appear in the app too.

Why can’t I import a certain PDF?

Password-protected PDFs aren’t supported yet. Please remove the password in the app that created the file and try again. Damaged or non-PDF files are also skipped.

The camera or “Save to Album” doesn’t work.

Go to Settings › PDF Maker on your iPhone and allow access to Camera or Photos, then try again.

Will I lose my files if I delete the app?

Yes — deleting the app removes the files stored inside it. Before deleting, move important PDFs to iCloud Drive using the Files app or share them to another app.

Do you collect my documents or personal data?

No. All processing happens on your device and we don’t collect personal data. See our Privacy Policy for details.
